Is wisdom tooth removal really necessary?
I have three wisdom teeth (one was removed as a teenager). I am about to have them removed, but wonder if it’s really worth the trouble and the cost. I am 24 now and they are no longer impacted (they were somewhat when I was a teen.) They aren’t causing pain and they aren’t disturbing my other teeth. The dentist recommended I have them removed simply because they are so far back in my mouth that they can be difficult to clean, and could cause problems like cavities. Is this really a legitimate concern or are they just after the money?

Tooth infections can ultimately lead to a heart attack, so yes it is worth it.
Your dentist’s recommendation is the reason to have them removed. Most people’s jaws are simply not large enough to accomodate the teeth and properly care for them.
My dentist kept on about my wisdom teeth, saying I didn’t need them.
She stopped that after I told her that my doctor doesn’t want to take out my appendix.
I didn’t have mine removed until my 30s, but they had BIG cavities by then. I had all four yanked at the same time. if you don’t mind them getting cavities, or if you think you can keep them clean enough to prevent cavities (like I thought), then keep them. BUT if you are under insurance and the insurance will pay for their removal, I’d go ahead and do it. You never know what the future might hold, and it’s just going to get more expensive.
You might want to see if you are a candidate for that plastic protection dentists can put over your molars to prevent further tooth decay (after the wisdom teeth are out and healed).
If you do get them taken out, follow the dentist’s instructions on what to eat and when. Do not drink from a straw for a long time!
Good luck!
Belief me if you don’t do it now, they will flare up when you least expected. You can have them pulled one at a time as you can afforded, but definitely have them pulled.
no it is not necessary anymore. If they were impacted then it would be necassary, but if they are not and are not causin movement to the other teeth it is fine. If it does hurt take them off. make sure you go see a dentist to make sure they are no longer impacted. keep your teeth if there is no problem.:)
I’m 35 and have all mine. They hurt like you know what coming in as a teen and in my eary 20′s, but other than that, I’ve had no problems. I’ve never had a cavity in any of them, and whenever I go to get my teeth cleaned and x-rayed they always say everything looks fine. My dentist’s opinion is that we should leave them alone if they are not a problem.
maybe you could wait and while waiting make sure you brush the teeth prop´ly
about money: we all have to make a living:)
